Three stories worth your time, then the rest.
1. Apple is reportedly putting AI spend on a daily allowance.
Bloomberg reports that Apple cut its engineering teams' daily AI cap from $300 to $200 in October, with some due to fall to $100. Teams outside engineering could get $25 a day. The figures come from Bloomberg's sources, not from Apple.
Takeaway: a cap helps only if you know which tasks have earned the spend. Work that out before you set the number.
2. Salesforce says half of Slack messages now come from agents.
It also counts 127 million MCP tool calls a week, doubling each quarter, and 1.9 million weekly users of third-party agents in Slack. It does not say how any of this was measured.
Takeaway: when agents post where decisions get made, name an owner for their permissions and their activity record.
3. A prosecutor relied on a case that does not exist.
The Guardian reports that a senior Crown Prosecution Service lawyer cited a made-up precedent in a youth court case, later revealed in High Court documents. It understands the citation came from an AI search summary. The CPS says its policy already required human checks; after a review, it shared the lesson that case law must be cited from trusted legal sources.
Takeaway: a rule to check citations works only when opening the source is a step someone records.
